Clay & Sones Multi-age

Hello Our Names Are...

Cheryl Clay and Rebecca Sones

This is the second year we, Mrs. Clay & Mrs. Sones, have taught multiage together even though we have been together at Amelia Elementary for 20 plus years. We feel like the multi age classroom is our second home.

The multi age class consists of two teachers and 46 students, 23 kindergarten students and 23 first grade students. Many of the kindergarten students enter with strong pre-reading skills. Your child continues with us into their first grade year. As a first grader, we are very familiar with your child and continue to advance them according to their individual reading level.
We use two classrooms and split for Language Arts/ Reading. Your child is placed in a reading group according to their level (not by grade). We take turns teaching your child Language/Arts and Reading. We also use two classrooms for Math.  Mrs. Sones teaches kindergarten Math and Mrs. Clay teaches first grade Math. For some activities Math is taught together.
Kindergarten and first grade Science and Social Studies are combined and taught together. Both classrooms are used depending on the activity.
The multi age program is very successful because children benefit from being with the same teachers for two years, cooperative learning, peer interaction, and flexible grouping.

Our mission is to provide a safe, loving environment where we all show each other respect and are responsible for our actions.  Where all children can say, "I had an awesome day!"  We want to produce students that want to be life-long learners and can one day say... "I remember learning that in school!"
