Welcome to my page!!!

It is my pleasure to be a 2nd Grade Teacher here at Amelia County Elementary.  I get to see your little ones grow and mature on a daily basis.  My focus each year is the most obvious, to teach students the SOL requirements for 2nd Grade. I also focus on problem solving skills and independence.  Too often students are not sure of their ability and rather than fail, they very rarely attempt new tasks independently.

Armed with strategies, I require my students to at least try.  Building confidence is utmost, so once I am able to understand how a student processes information to apply their skills, whether its applying a reading strategy to decode words, or applying a math strategy to solve a problem, I can better assist them in mastering their task.

My love for children began years ago, but having children (2 boys and 1 girl) of my own, I put off my education to raise them until all were at least in elementary school.  In 2006 I earned my Master's Degree in Elementary Education at Virginia State University.  While taking classes, I was a Substitute Teacher in the Chesterfield County Public School system.  After graduation, I became a Teacher's Aide, also in Chesterfield County.  I left Chesterfield after the 2012-2013 school year ended, serving a total of 7 years.

This is my third year at Amelia County Elementary, and I must say that it has been a wonderful experience.  Coming from a fairly large school system, both professionally, and personally (attended Norfolk, VA public Schools), it is refreshing to see how a tight knit community comes together to support their children and their school.  I have to give a big shout out to the PTA that we have here at Amelia County Elementary; they are amazing!!

I look forward to continuing to see your little ones, year after year, grow academically as well as socially.  Thank you for welcoming me with open arms.  It's much appreciated!!
