Weekly News and Updates

Week of 9/16-9/20

Just a reminder that if you have not already, please sign up for Remind using our class code 74eea2. You can use the app or the website.

Reading: This week students will complete a cold read. They will read an on grade level passage they have never read before. This shows me where they are at in their reading and what I can do to help them become better readers. Your student will be learning about adjectives, as well as reviewing nouns and verbs. Our story of the week is Lucia’s Neighborhood. We will also start AR this week so encourage your child to READ, READ, READ!

Sight Words: my, here, who, all, does, me

Phonics: We are going to be focusing on short e words (ex: egg, get).

Math: In math, we are going to start centers. Students will complete one center a day Monday-Thursday. We will have our writing numbers 1-40 test as we did not get to complete it last week. We are still working on graphing and using tally marks.

Writing: In writing, we have been working on handwriting. This week, first grade will take a writing grade on a prompt. Students will be expected to use capital letters, punctuation, spaces between words, and spell sight words correctly.

Science: Our science test on animals will be on 9/19. Please remember to study with your child at home!
